The power forward (PF) moves up to set a screen for the center (C). C cuts off the screen to receive the inbound pass and immediately passes out to the point guard (PG) who has broken cross court. C then moves to the offside wing. After inbounding the ball, SF establishes a solid post-up position on his defender. The ball is moved rapidly around the perimeter with SF sliding through the lane and looking for the pass. C then finds SF in the post (Diagram B), and the one-on-one game between SF and his defender commences.

At the same time, C and PG set a double screen for SG. SG loops around the screen to the lane, giving PF a second passing option. Coaching Point: This play is especially effective against tight man-to-man defenses. Page 24 Drill #15: Free the C Objective: To safely inbound the ball using a box set. Description: This drill begins with the point guard (PG) inbounding the ball and the rest of the offense positioned as shown in Diagram A.
