Wieder fiel sein Blick auf den leichten Schlitten. Der Teufel ritt ihn, und er löste die steife Plane über dem Laderaum hinter den beiden Sitzen. Neben anderen Dingen befanden sich die Raketen der Show darin.

Aber als sie den hilflosen Ehemann und die zärtliche Frau beobachtete, schwanden ihr Lächeln und ihr träumerisches Gefühl. Sie wurde angespannt und unruhig. Dreimal machte sie Anstalten, etwas zu sagen, schließlich schürzte sie nur die Lippen und machte sich davon, ohne ein Wort zu sagen.
