Frequently Asked Questions At DirectMed Health Services
1. Will these services cost me anything?
DirectMed has never charged a patient. Most patients that we serve have Medicare or Medicaid and our services are covered by each. If we ever did have to charge for any services, we would get the patients permission before services are delivered. Depending on your insurance plan, you may have a copayment due at time of service.
2. When will the nurse see me?
After we verify the patient's information and receive permission to provide care from a physician, the nurse will call and schedule a time that fits best for the patient and his/her family.
3. Can I keep my doctor and still have a doctor come to my home?
Absolutely. The patient is always allowed to keep their doctor. A visiting doctor can make it easy for the patient since they will come to the home and they can also consult with the patient's primary doctor (with permission).
3. How long or often will the nurse (and/or therapists) visit me?
That will vary based on the plan of care set up with the nurse and the physician. Home health is intended to monitor and teach a patient (or someone else in the home) how to recover and take care of themselves. Once this is accomplished, and there has not been any other health changes, then the services are concluded.
4. I am looking for someone to come out and help clean and maybe some light cooking.
DirectMed will only provided services if there is a skilled need such as a nurse or therapists. If there is a skilled need and the nurse or social worker thinks that the patient should get assistance with cleaning and cooking, we will contact organizations such as The Department of Aging who will help provide those services if the patient qualifies.
5. What areas does DirectMed provide services?
Currently we provide services in the Chicago area (Cook County). If the patient is outside of Cook County, we can assist in finding an agency for the patient.
6. I have Medicare part A and B. Which one covers home health?
Generally, home health is covered by part A but we can also use part B if the patient does not have part A.
7. My doctor told me that I can only use the home health agency he works with. Is This True?
False. A patient can use any home health agency they choose. A doctor may make a recommendation but they cannot tell the patient who to choose.
8. Somebody has been talking to me about a Medicare prescription plan to save on my medications and they will give me a free gift.
We highly recommend that you have a family member you trust or contact us before signing anything. Many people are confused about what they are signing and sometimes will lose their traditional Medicare coverage.
9. There is a home health agency willing to give me money or gifts if I use them. What do you offer?
All we will offer is great care. Giving money or gifts to get a patient to use a home health agency is illegal and unethical.
